Hey homeschoolers or future potential homeschoolers. I am so glad you joined me today because I'm going to be talking about a topic that's not often discussed in Charlotte Mason circles, although it was a very important topic to Charlotte Mason. And I'll share some of the writings that she wrote on this issue. Even though it's not discussed much when you're listening to Charlotte Mason podcasts or reading Charlotte Mason books, it's actually a really important topic, and it's a topic that I have been passionate about for more than 20 years. And that is the defense of the biblical model for creation and the importance of grounding our children in truth, in the evidence for the truth, and equipping them with this evidence so that their faith will be supported, so that they have a reason in their hearts to know the truth and believe the truth. And as it says in 1 Peter 3:15, that "...in their hearts they will Revere Christ as Lord, and they will always be prepared to give an answer to every one who asks them to give a reason for the hope they have." And by preparing them with the truth — with evidence for the truth — then we can help them to always have that answer.
When my children were young, God put this on my heart very heavily. He called me to this very ministry of arming and equipping families with evidence for a biblical model for creation, and he called me to use the gifts he gave me in writing and speaking, to fortify the homeschool community with the truth of creation science and evidence for the truth. And so that's when I began the ministry of writing my creation science curriculum, which was eventually published by Apologia, and that is the Young Explorer series, which is Exploring Creation with Astronomy, Botany, Zoology 1, 2, 3, Chemistry and Physics, and Anatomy and Physiology. It all started when my children were young. They wanted to learn about space and I thought, oh my goodness, I haven't really studied space since high school, and I was a science major in college, but I never took astronomy. So I took my kids to the library and I said, "Let's check out every book there is about space!" My oldest was about seven and my youngest was an infant. And I sat down with my four children and on the couch at home with the 23 books that I could check out from the library on the topic and began reading. And not only was it twaddle, as you know what twaddle is, is just boring facts and information, surface level knowledge — basically treating children like unintelligent beings in the way they write, people who are writing not because they have a passion for the subject, but because they're trying to convey facts and information. So it was boring surface level knowledge, written in a way that just drained the life out of the topic, but all the books were deeply rooted in evolutionary thought. And so even though I was reading to my children, I was trying to skip over the parts that said "billions of years ago" or "millions of years ago in the Big Bang" and all of these things, I was trying to kind of skip over that stuff when I was reading. I had children next to me that could read, and they asked me, "Why are you skipping over this?" And I knew in my heart that what they were seeing in black and white words that caused little spores and seeds of doubt to germinate in their hearts over the biblical truth that I had taught them from young ages, to doubt what I had taught them their whole lives about the creation of the world in God and Jesus.
I knew that I had to do something about it, because I went searching after that for books that could teach astronomy in a way that brought the subject to life in an engaging way, as Charlotte Mason calls "a living book", but also grounded them in evidence and truth. And that's a whole long story about how I began to write the series and researched the series. Originally it was just the astronomy book, and I was just writing it for my children, and God had bigger plans for it, and today I have seven books in the series that I've written in my creation science curriculum, written using the Charlotte Mason model of education. And so this has long been my ministry to undergird the faith of families with the evidence that is now available to us in the biblical creation model. And Charlotte Mason herself truly grappled with these things. In the early years of her educational training, the writings of Charles Darwin work much celebrated, and they were being translated into every language and distributed around the world and Charlotte Mason herself adored the natural sciences. She was a student of nature, student of science, and she kept abreast of every new development. She loved every new science and technology that was ever invented. I think she would have loved this internet age, all the knowledge available to us. But we see in her later writings that she began to see the implications of this teaching of evolution, which she was willing to entertain in the early years but later, she realized the implications were that people and children especially began to believe that life on earth existed apart from God, that life began without God's involvement. And as a devout Christian who loved the Lord, who had an intimate relationship with Jesus, who believed the originator of all truth was in Christ, and the very essence of all knowledge came only and purely from God, that all ideas originated from God, that he is the originator of every good idea, and every bad idea has a different originator. And she realized that the ideas of evolution, of what they were teaching, was not the whole story. She saw that these ideas were insidious and were damaging children's faith. And so she knew there was more to it, and she believed we needed to take a step back and question what was really going on. Charlotte Mason wrote, "There are ideas, both evil in good, both moral and intellectual, which strike us, possess us, carry us away, absorb all our powers of body and mind so that we may come to live, for better, for worse, as the instrument of a single idea. How necessary, then, that we should keep watch at the door of ideas, and that we should become adept in the use of the simple means of repelling ideas we would not willingly entertain."
Charlotte Mason began to see that this whole path, that these ideas of evolution were spreading like wildfire, like a disease. And she saw that it was harming the faith of children and all the grownups who are reading these ideas, they poo pooed her idea that this was a problem, and she believed it was a problem, and that it was going to damage the faith of the younger generation, in spite of the fact that nobody believed that that was true, that that could possibly happen. She goes on to write, "We absolutely must face the questions that are in the air, however much we elders choose to shut our eyes and say we see no danger. It is certain that no young person of education and intelligence will long escape the necessity of having to contend for or deny the faith." She goes on to say, "The secret of safety in matters of philosophy, as well as in all practical matters of life, is to know that we are capable of being convinced of anything, however wrong or foolish, unless we are able to bring an instructed conscience to the consideration of the acceptable notion." And she says, "The only place that we can find the correct material for thought is first and last found in the Bible." Charlotte Mason was deeply concerned about the teachings of that day, and she knew that science didn't always have the correct answer, didn't always have the full answer. Winston Churchill once said, "The lie gets halfway around the world before the truth gets a chance to get his pants on." In Charlotte Mason's day, the lie had spread around the world, and it was a while before the creationists had a chance to build their case, to explore the evidence, to expose the evidence for God's Word as truth. And today, in our day, thank the Lord, a hundred years later, we have so much more evidence, so much more, that proves the creation model of the Earth's existence. We have so much evidence that there's really too much for me to explain in this podcast, but in this podcast, I want to share enough to ground you and your children in the basics, the basic evidence, so that you'll be ready, you and your children will be ready with an answer for the hope that lies within you.
Let's begin with the idea of evolution. Now the word evolution simply means the gradual development or change of anything, of something or anything. Families evolve. Businesses evolve. Our thoughts evolve and nature evolves. But this evolution that we actually see in nature is the development of new species from an original ancestor. We call this natural selection or speciation. More properly, we should call it microevolution — the small gradual development or change. macroevolution is what evolutionary biologists believe is the origin of the Earth. And macro means big, big development, gradual changes are developments and there is evidence for microevolution. But to take the truth and the facts of microevolution and apply it to macroevolution and say, "These small changes, these speciations, this natural selection proves macroevolution," is like looking at an anthill, looking at a mound built by ants and saying, "These mountains over here must have been built by ants or similar creatures." It's just a leap of logic that is illogical. You see, microevolution has been observed, it has been recorded, it's in the fossil record, we've seen it in the lab. It occurs when features evolve over time, say a beak, and we can take the example that Darwin himself used to make this giant leap of logic and that was the finches on Galapagos Island. He found that a new species of finches had developed with extremely long beaks, and they had not been there before. There was a completely new species of bird that had really long beaks, and he could tell that they had evolved from an original finch that was on the island. And the long beaks actually improved survivability of the finches, because the finches with long beaks were able to get into the long necks of the very tropical flowers that grew in abundance on the island. And because those birds could get to the nectar at the very bottom of those flowers and the birds with short bills, the short beaked birds, couldn't reach that nectar — it didn't have an overabundance of nectar in its food supply — the birds that did have the long beaks became healthier. They laid more eggs. They preferred to breed with one another. There were more of those birds surviving longer and healthier lives than the birds with the short bills. When the short billed birds would mate with the long billed birds, the young that developed with longer bills had more young, and they made it more often. They created an abundance of birds with long bills, eventually becoming the dominant species, eventually having the inability to create a bird with short bills. The DNA of short or long bills was eventually lost, and that's what happens when speciation happens. Over time, it loses genetic codes. It doesn't gain genetic codes, as the evolutionists claim. As speciation happens, a lot of times there is a loss of DNA. And these birds could create longer and longer bills. They could create more and more birds with longer and longer bills, over time becoming even more specific and unique in its features but the DNA coding had to be in its genes for it to create longer bills, and only the bills that were coded in the DNA could be produced at all. The longer bills, of course, which was better for survival, was naturally selected as the preferred beak and eventually became the dominant species, and this is how natural selection works. This is how species develop. This is survival of the fittest. The longer bills were the fittest. This has been observed in science, in nature, in the lab, and the fossil record. But again DNA, the DNA must be coded for variations in beak size for there to be any variation in beak shape, size or color. Those birds could never have developed a mouth with teeth.
A bird's foot cannot develop a hairy paw. They can never develop something that is not coded in its DNA. A bird can never produce hair instead of a feather, or scales instead of a feather. It's not in the DNA. Microevolution is what an animal can become based on what is inside the DNA coding. To say that microevolution proves macroevolution is changing the truth into a lie. Now evolutionists hold that it's mutations to the DNA code that cause these upward changes and create a whole new, different kind of animal. Mutations plus a huge amount of time, that magic wand of time, is the defense they make. However, mutations in the lab, in nature, and the fossil record... Mutations are never upward. Mutations are always downward, always hinder the survivability of a species as a whole. They do not improve the species or the DNA coding. Mutations are accidents that — with humans or plants or animals — cause abnormalities that are harmful to the species as a whole. So, to say that macroevolution happened through millions and millions of upward mutations over millions and millions of years, causing a slime — piece of slime that we don't know how it got there... big bang — to become a fish, to become a mammal, to become a man... It's illogical and there is no science to back it up. It's only a theory. It's only an idea. And again, we need to guard the door of ideas. The fact is, is that this idea of animals changing from one kind of animal to another is not found in the fossil record. There's not a single transitional species in the fossil record that has ever been found. What we do find in the fossil record is evidence for a biblical creation and evidence for a biblical flood.
You probably know how fossils are formed, but if you don't, I'm just going to briefly go over how fossils are formed. You see, fossils cannot be formed unless the creature, animal or plant is immediately buried by thick sediment before or after it dies, immediately buried. And the reason it must be immediately buried is because natural processes will break down the animal before it can fossilize, if it's not immediately buried in sediment. Thick sediment. When an animal dies, God has designed for it to be broken down back into the elements of the earth, through bacteria, through parasites and scavengers, and these things show up immediately. As you know, they can tell exactly how long a body has been dead by the actual creatures that are in existence on the dead body. Because these things show up immediately and they show up in a process, a sequence and order that breaks down the living thing. But evolutionists don't teach that animals were immediately buried in sediment in order to have become fossilized. They teach that the animal died and then over a period of time, it was maybe at the bottom of a swamp and then eventually, over time, more and more sediment covered the animal and eventually fossilized the animal. That is, frankly, impossible. That can never happened. That has never happened. You have never seen an animal die, and over time be covered in sediment and fossilized without it having broken down completely. And in fact, what we find in the fossil record is animals being fossilized while they are living their lives. They are in motion. They have found ichthyosaurs swimming all in the same direction in pods. They have found an ichthyosaur giving birth, with a baby ichthyosaur next to it, giving birth to the second one. They have found fossils of fish consuming smaller fish of animals in combat with one another, in the midst of fighting, having been buried in sediments; animals hatching from their eggs and then buried. This is how we find fossils, animals in activity, animals actually moving and then suddenly buried. And what event accounts for animals suddenly being buried in sediment? Well there's one event. And the fact is, is not only do we find animals in motion, we find animals with soft tissue that is still soft in the fossilized remains, blood cells that would have certainly fossilized if they had died millions of years ago. And in fact, as we know, this event — the flood — happened a little over 4000 years ago. So that's why we can still find soft tissues in fossilized animals.
When God describes the Great Flood in Genesis 6, he talks about the fact that the fountains of the deep... Now people just imagine it rained and rained and rained and rained, and of course, you know, all the songs are about it raining, but the fact is, is the way God describes it is "the fountains of the deep broke open all over the earth," all over the globe, causing volcanic eruptions. That's how these plates developed. They were cracked open through volcanic eruptions all over the Earth, causing tsunamis, causing a huge destruction upon the earth, and water came flooding up from the ground. Now, there's been recent discoveries that have found that there is more water under the earth than in all our oceans combined. That actually, all of our oceans combined only accounts for one third of the water that is in the Earth. And so you can imagine when there's earth and all this water comes flooding out, what also comes flooding around? It's the dirt. It becomes a mud flood, a mud flow, and it is coming down from mountains. It's moving fast through this water pouring out and mud is just... It becomes this fast moving river of sediment burying everything in its path. And these flood waters were churning and swirling and sweeping over the Earth. This sediment, this fast moving sediment, laying down layers as it went, laying down layers as it slowed down. And it was moving for over 150 days, and then it took 221 days for it to start receding, and that's when most of the layers were laid down. That's why we find sea creatures fossilized in deserts, in the middle of landlocked deserts. We find sea creatures at the very highest mountains on the earth. It makes perfect sense. You can imagine how it might have worked, which animals would be buried in sediment first, in the lowest layer. Well, it would be animals, of course, that could not fly, run or swim very fast. Those would be the animals that were buried first, and then the better an animal could fly or swim or run, the longer it would take for that animal to find itself buried in the sediment, the more it could fight against the currents. So we find at the very bottom creatures that seem simpler, less complex and less developed. Of course, we find that that's not even true at all, but that is where this fallacy of evolution got its hold, because they did find at the bottom these more simple, less able animals. And then as you go up in the layers, you find more complex creatures that were perhaps a little bit stronger. But in the end, scientists now have studied these supposedly "simple animals" at the lower layers, and they find that they are extremely complex and intelligent, octopuses are brilliant creatures that can solve puzzles, yet they're considered a simple animal because they don't have the same complex features as a mammal. Yet they're brilliant. Lobsters are brilliant. If you want to read more about that, you need to get Zoology 2, my new Zoology 2 book that's out. It is amazing and I give 18 examples of creation confirmations within the 14 lessons and your faith will be solidified through all of my science books, but my last book I'm really excited about because I just finished it.

And so you do find in these layers that when the floodwaters were receding and the layers were being laid down, you find this basic moving from simple to more complex animals, but the problem is, is that we also continually find animals in the wrong layers. We also find tree trunks that are fossilized, standing upright through layers that are supposed to be millions of years old. A tree trunk just cutting through all the layers — it's an impossibility if these layers were laid down over millions of years. And in fact, another fact is that we do not find any erosion in any of the layers. We would find evidence of erosion if it took millions of years for that layer to lay down. These layers were laid down systematically and quickly. And we saw this with Mount Saint Helen. We saw layers similar to the layers that we find all over the earth, laid down in minutes and days. Huge canyons were formed in sediment layer upon layer that looked like it would have taken millions of years to lay down; we witness and have video of it being laid down quickly. And another thing is that these layers that we find over the earth, how is it that the exact same layer is found in California, made up of the exact same kinds of sediment that's laid in California, that's also found in Kentucky and in Iraq, all over the Earth, the same layer, these layers upon layer. How is it? Well, of course, we know and we understand that the continents were all one landmass at one time. And so these layers would be laid down all over the contiguous continents of the Earth before events happened that caused them to separate. But what's even more amazing is the evidence that we find in what is called the Cambrian explosion, the Cambrian layer, which is one of the lowermost layers that covers the whole Earth. It has a great dense amount of fossils in that layer, and in that layer we find a sudden appearance of thousands of fully formed, fully developed animals from every phylum known to exist. And there's no evidence in lower layers or anywhere of earlier ancestors. They just appear mysteriously like magic, all these fully formed animals.
Even Darwin was confounded and frustrated over the Cambrian explosion. Today they say, "Oh well, there was a sudden increase in oxygen and all these animals suddenly developed quickly because of so much more oxygen in the air." That doesn't explain the sudden appearance of animals without evidence of having evolved. It's illogical. Extra oxygen is not going to create thousands upon thousands of fully formed animals. The Cambrian explosion can be easily explained by a worldwide flood. This layer of the earth, all over the earth where we find so many fossils, fully formed fossils, has an explanation. Many of the fossils in the Cambrian layer are fully formed and have the same features, similar features to their counterparts today, without change, without evolving. If it was millions of years ago, shouldn't these animals continue to evolve? If evolution were true, shouldn't we see animals in the midst of transition somewhere in the fossil record or somewhere on earth today? We don't. We see animals, we see species developing. We see species developing all the time. But those species are a part of a kind, a kind of animal that can mate with other kinds of animals in that same either family or genus, sometimes order, depending on what animal it is. God chose two of each kind of animal to enter the ark, and seven of each kind of bird, and seven of every kind of clean animal. And all of those animals could easily fit on the ark. If you look at the Ark Encounter and that video online, you can see how huge the Ark was and how small a giant sauropod was, or a blue whale was compared to the Ark. But yes, all the animals, two of each kind, seven of other certain kinds, could fit on the ark, especially for dinosaurs if they were juveniles. You don't need all the sauropods that were in existence before the flood. You don't need all of them. You just need two of one kind that can mate with each other.
God knew that the two kinds that needed to enter the ark needed to have a great many variation options in the DNA. All these variations in the DNA of two different kinds were necessary to repopulate the Earth with many new species. Speciation, this microevolution, and new species were able to develop from the two kinds and we don't know what those two animals were. They probably didn't look anything like, but they could mate with one another. And they had many variations between the two of what kind of features might develop. And we see that species can develop actually really quickly. Australian scientists actually saw the development of a new species of wallabies over the course of 12 years. In 12 years a whole new species of wallaby developed. Today we breed new species of plants and animals all the time. Animal features must be present within the DNA. Animal characteristics must be present within the DNA for it to develop a new species.
One thing that I found was so interesting: in 1960, these scientists did a study on foxes. They actually gathered hundreds of foxes, and from those hundreds of foxes, they chose out many of them that were the most, what they would call, tame. They were friendlier, they were less afraid of humans, they seemed to have more characteristics of playfulness. They were just more tame than all the others in the group. And then they took the most tame of those, and they mated them with one another, and then they took the most tame of the offspring and mated those with one another. And they continued to do this after three generations, only three generations, these foxes were completely tame. There was no wild one, and only in three generations there was not a single wild fox in the mix. And after six generations, these foxes, they were not just tame, but they began to act like domesticated dogs. They wagged their tail, they whined, they were happy to see their owners and ran to humans whenever they saw them and licking them, and they acted just like dogs, unlike foxes at all. And that's just in six generations. They completely changed the nature of these foxes. And what's interesting that I just learned is pretty new information, is that you can actually breed foxes with your domesticated dog. They actually can mate and produce offspring. And so when you think about the species that God put on the ark, we have to know that they probably didn't look anything like each other, but they could mate with one another. If we look at a species and we can trace it back to the original species, we will find that the DNA has coding for all the variations that we see in that specific species. The original DNA had to have all the codes there and as species develop more and more specific features, we find that the DNA loses the information it originally had to produce the earlier variations. It loses the ability to produce a creature like the original creature.
For example, a wolf could eventually produce a Chihuahua, but a Chihuahua could never produce a wolf. And this explains why we have so many different species today. And so we see in the fossil record evidence for microevolution, evidence for speciation, but we see no evidence for macroevolution or what evolutionary biologists simply call evolution. We do see evidence for evolution, just not macroevolution. And the fact is, is human geography also gives us evidence for the flood. Almost every culture on Earth has a flood story in its mythology. Over 300 cultures, some with remote cultures on islands with no contact with any other culture has a similar flood story to the biblical flood story. And in fact, most Native Americans, when the Europeans colonized America, had flood stories and stories similar to the Tower of Babel, as well. In fact, the Chinese characters for flood, that make up the word flood and also make up the word boat, give us a really interesting picture of where these words originated from. The word flood has two characters: one is water flowing and the other is two hands holding up a boat. And the character that means boat today, if you look at the ancient origins of those characters, there are three parts to the word boat: one is the word vessel, the second is the number eight — there were eight people on the ark — and the third is word mouth, so basically eight mouths. That means eight people. So, eight people on a boat. That's the word boat in the Chinese characters... A vessel with eight people.
The whole issue with dinosaurs also gives us great evidence against evolution and for the biblical flood. A man named Edwin Kolbert, who was a dinosaur expert, he's an evolutionary dinosaur curator of the dinosaur halls of the American Museum, he says, "In short, the extinction of the dinosaurs is a constantly baffling problem, as much of a mystery now as it was a half century or a century ago. We probably shall never know why these fabulous reptiles, so long masters of the continents, should have disappeared completely from the earth. It seems like that this will remain in the future, as it has in the past, one of the unanswered problems of paleontology." He also says, "We can't explain how a huge catastrophe would kill large reptiles and keep the small reptiles alive, to this day. We find in the fossil record alligators, turtles, snakes and dinosaurs. What kind of selective catastrophic event could this be? And the fact is, is that dinosaurs have been mentioned in historical accounts. Respected historians and explorers from the past mentioned dinosaurs in their writings. And of course, they're called dragons, as they were for many years before they coined the term dinosaur sometime in the late 1800s. Men such as Herodotus, Josephus, Alexander the Great, Marco Polo, and the Bible mentioned dinosaurs, they mention dragons. And archeology gives us more evidence and gives us evidence to see why they became extinct. Do you know how easy it is for an animal to become extinct? We have so many animals that have almost become extinct, but with great effort from conservationists, we have saved many species from becoming extinct. And yet there are other species that became extinct anyway.
If you've ever heard the story of the passenger pigeon, it's pretty remarkable. Passenger pigeons were so prolific in the United States in the 17 and 1800s that when they migrated the sky above their migration route, their migration highway, the sky above would darken, become black with these birds blocking out the sun, there were so many of them. And they became a favorite for game hunting. The pigeons were food of choice for the Americans. Easy to get, easy to pick off, and soon they became extinct. Now, there's a lot of other reasons for that being that they only lay one egg a year, which is similar to why whales have become extinct and are also in danger of becoming extinct because they only calf every three or four, sometimes seven years, and they usually just have one. But archeology gives us evidence for the biblical creation model of dinosaurs living with man. We have an Angkor Wat, the temple, a sixth century temple, has a depiction of a perfectly structured Stegosaurus hundreds of years, a carving of Stegosauruses hundreds of years before they were discovered by modern science. Over 50,000 ancient burial stones were found in Peru, depicting every type of dinosaur known today. 50,000 ancient burial stones. They're huge, these stones are humongous. And these dinosaurs carved into these stones, they feature unique characteristics of dinosaurs that we've only recently discovered, such as dermal frills and certain types of horns. But one of the things, one of the main features of these burial stones, is that almost every dinosaur is depicted with men in battle against them. Dinosaurs became extinct because they were hunted like the passenger pigeon.
There are many other artifacts found that show that men knew what dinosaurs looked like. There were ceramic figurines found in Mexico, ancient Mesopotamian seals from the year 3300 B.C. found long necked sauropods. And in fact, so many of these ancient features of animals found in these ancient relics have sauropods twisting their long necks together, which I think is so interesting. I think of how swans do that. But these men actually saw these sauropods doing this. They drew pictures on walls, they made figurines, they created seals of sauropods doing this because they had seen them long before we ever discovered they existed. And more evidence against the whole concept of evolution is that evolutionists maintain unscientific ideas. For everything to suddenly appear from nothing through a big explosion, this big bang, goes against the first law of thermodynamics: that conservation of energy — that matter can neither be created nor destroyed. The idea that simple, undifferentiated single cell amoebas randomly floating in some mysterious liquid becomes more and more complex and ordered over time goes against the second law of thermodynamics, which is entropy: that all matter goes from a state of order to disorder. There's also many other scientific discoveries that refute evolution, such as the faint young sun theory, such as the Earth's magnetic field weakening over time — it would be too weak now if it were billions of years old, that comets... We have comets that are too young for our solar system, that the moon is moving away too fast to be billions of years old, or we wouldn't have the moon. Carbon 14 — but it's not constant in the Earth's atmosphere. We can't rely on it for dating things.
But I believe the most important evidence for a young creation is found in biblical theology, because we simply cannot have death before the fall of man. In Genesis, "God looked upon all that he made, and indeed it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning, the sixth day. It was very good." The word very comes from the Hebrew word meod, which means vehemently wholly, completely. It was vehemently wholly and then good means pleasing, agreeable, precious, beautiful or prosperous, contrasted with evil. So it was wholly beautiful and agreeable and precious and prosperous and pleasing and not evil. So how can this world that was very good have death in it? What is death? In Leviticus 17:11, it says, "For the life of a creature is in the blood." So death is the opposite of life, and life is creatures with blood in it. Deuteronomy 12:3 it says, "But be sure you do not eat the blood, because the blood is the life, and you must not eat the life with the meat." I do like my meat a little bloody, so hope I'm not in trouble for that. But nevertheless, life is animals, creatures with blood in them. That is what is living. And we cannot have those creatures dying before the curse, because in Romans 5:12 it says, "The curse brought death. Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man and death through sin, so also death was passed on to all men, because all sinned." Essentially, there was no death before the fall. Romans 5:19 says, "For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners. So by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous." Who is, of course, Christ. The Bible tells us that in the end, all creation is seeking for this redemption of this bondage to death and decay. Everything in creation is — animals and humans.
It says in Romans 8, "For the creation was subjected to futility, not by its own will, but because of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to decay, and brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God." The creation is waiting for this glorious freedom that we have, and it says, "We know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until the present time." And the Bible tells us that, "At the end, when things are restored, that the wolf will live with the lamb." Isaiah 11, "The leopard will lie down with the goat, the calf and the lion and the yearling together, and a little child will lead them." A little child will lead a lion and a leopard. "The cow will feed with the bear. Their young will lie down together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox." That's the restoration. The lion will eat straw like the ox. "The infant will play near the hole of the cobra, and the young child put his hand into the viper's nest. They will neither harm nor destroy, because death is no more." There's no more death and destruction. That's the redemption. That's the redemption of the world back to its original form, when it was very good. It says, "They will neither harm nor destroy on all my holy mountain. The last enemy that will be abolished is death." And so we see that in God's economy death is an enemy. And therefore when God created the world, he called it very good, there could not be death upon the earth. That is the whole reason Jesus came to abolish the last enemy, which is death. And that, to me, is the number one reason why we cannot have all these millions of years with all these animals killing each other and dying and becoming fossilized over all this time on the history of the earth, before there was evil and the fall of man. You just can't have it, it doesn't work with the message of the gospel and the message of Christ.
Now, of course, I would never say, as I've heard some say, that this is a salvation issue. It's not, it's not a salvation issue. The Bible tells us if we believe in the Lord and call upon his name, if we believe that Christ was raised from the dead, that he died for our sins, that we are saved. There's a lot of theological stuff that we can argue about over and over again. It doesn't even matter, because the most important thing is that we believe Christ and Him crucified, and that we are saved by faith through his death and resurrection. So that is my creation confirmation, and I hope it helped to bolster your faith, helped to build your faith. As always, if you have any questions, please contact me. [email protected] is my email.
